What Addiction Counselling Looks Like

Accessing therapy services to address an addiction concern can look similar (or very different) for people depending on what their goals are. People access addiction counselling for a number of different reasons:

  • They have identified a problem

  • Someone they care about is battling addiction

  • They have a desire to make a change in their life

  • Other reasons relating to job or legal system

There is no 'right' or 'wrong' reason to seek addiction counselling.

Our Approach

We will always start with your goals, obtain an understanding of what you want to get out of therapy, and build a treatment plan that supports you in being successful in those goals.

Once we understand what support you are looking for, we can individualize the therapy and treatment plan to meet your needs in ways that look like::

  • Focusing on the ins and outs of addiction along with its mental and physical impacts on you

  • Skill development, including healthy communication, boundary setting, and stress management

  • Trigger identification and the development of a related coping plan

  • Treatment plan and relapse prevention

Making positive changes on your recovery journey can also look different based on your goals. For some it is abstinence, for others, it might be harm reduction. Reduction and maintenance can be yet another goal.
