Online Counselling

Based in the Stratford, Ontario area - we offer virtual therapy across Ontario.

What is Online Counselling?

Online counselling is any clinical practice that is conducted over the Internet. During the early onset of COVID-19, pretty much any and all interactions shifted to the virtual dimension. Counselling was no different.

In fact, virtual counselling gained a lot of popularity, especially during the pandemic due to the stresses that it put (and continues to put) on so many aspects of our lives.

Therapy, whether in-person or online, can be a daunting process, especially if it’s your first time with it. And that's completely okay.

Let us walk you through the process of online counselling and how it can be effective for you.

What To Expect During Online Counselling

Online counselling follows the same protocol as traditional counselling, except for the mode of communication.

Online therapy can be conducted via the following mediums:

  • Video meetings

  • Telephone calls

  • Instant messaging

  • Emails

All you need is a working internet connection and a device to access it.

Benefits of Online Counselling

For most people, online counselling has several benefits that give it an edge over traditional in-person counselling:

It is easily accessible

Online counselling is not limited by geography. People living in remote and rural areas often struggle to access traditional therapy due to a lack of nearby counselling facilities.

The availability of virtual counselling allows them to avail the help they require from the comfort of their homes.

It is less time-consuming

Virtual counselling does not take up the time that is traditionally spent travelling to the therapist’s clinic. It doesn’t require any mobility, other than shifting to a quiet place in your home where you can take the session. This is a convenience for people with kids or others under their care.

Online counselling is also especially useful for persons with disabilities, who otherwise have trouble accessing traditional forms of therapy.

It can be less unnerving

For a lot of people, face-to-face counselling can be a very anxious process. This could become even more difficult for someone who has social anxiety and faces trouble opening up to their therapist in person.

Due to the many modes of online counselling, some people can choose to communicate via texting platforms, while others might keep their videos off and talk through audio.

Virtual counselling also gives people more control over their environment. Most people take online therapy from home and being in a familiar environment can help reduce added stress and anxiety.
