A Message From Brent:
Whether this is your first time seeking out therapy or you are looking to make a new connection, I understand the fears and reservations you may have and how intimidating this process can be. When I first sought out therapy for myself, I remember thinking: “How do I know this person will be supportive? How do I know they won’t be judgmental?” Thankfully, my fears were unfounded as I was able to connect with compassionate, encouraging therapists that not only supported me through my challenges, but also inspired me to do the same for others. With this in mind, I strive to be an authentic, approachable, and compassionate therapist, as that is what I desired most when I pursued my own help.
I have worked in the mental health field for nearly ten years and am passionate about supporting and empowering others through their personal life journey. I strive to help people recognize their strength, agency and power over their lives, and to help reframe negative thinking patterns so that one can regain control over their thoughts. My hope is that you leave our sessions recognizing that the experiences of your life, whether in childhood or recent past, have influenced your thoughts and behaviour to this point but they do not need to define your future.
I have had the privilege of working with individuals of various ages, backgrounds, stages of life, and challenges. I have worked with perpetrators and victims of domestic violence, LGBTQ2S+ individuals struggling with identity and family conflict, relationship issues between married and unmarried couples, addictions and recovery, as well as childhood and recent trauma. As a parent of young children, I understand the emotional rollercoaster of having children at home, and have supported fellow parents through their parenting journey.
I received my Masters of Social Work from Wilfred Laurier University and am a Registered Social Worker. I think it is important to allow you the opportunity to shape the direction of your sessions. My approach includes skills from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I frequently like to utilize mindfulness techniques and media to both educate and allow you to take skills home to help manage your emotions when feeling overwhelmed. I am confident that whatever your current challenges, that we will be able to find an approach to therapy that will work best for you.
